Fight Night

Posted in Uncategorized by Britney on November 30, 2007

So I need to go to bed, but I couldn’t sleep until I put these photos up. Not sure why, because I really didn’t get what I wanted, but this is my rough edit from watching Frat boys pound on each-other for an hour. I’m going back tomorrow to take a better picture.

Sleep Photographing

Posted in Uncategorized by Britney on November 29, 2007

I hate that feeling when you wake up to urgency, like when you jump out of bed ten minutes after your class time.  Times that by ten, and that’s how confused I was when I woke up at 2 a.m. to a prerecorded message from a monotone man telling me to quickly find my nearest exit while the fire alarm screeched in the background.

It kind of felt like sleep walking, and I had to ask myself quite a few times if I was dreaming.  I dont really remember what sort of logic told me to put on shoes, because I was incredibly confused. It’s times like these when you find out whats really important to people. One girl grabbed a blanket so she wouldnt freeze, another girl had a teddy bear. My roomate told me as we were evacuating that she turned around to make sure I had gotten out, saw a girl sleepwalking with a camera plastered to her face, and knew I was OK.

It ended up not being a real fire. Im not too sure what happened actually. My pictures suck. But my other roomate told me that she thinks taking pictures for me has become more natural than breathing, and I took that as just about the highest compliment anyone could give.

Dance Fever

Posted in Uncategorized by Britney on November 29, 2007

Deepest apologies for taking so long to update; It’s been a crazy few days, and I’ve been shooting a lot of film, so I didn’t think about updating the blog since I didn’t have much in the ways of recent digital photos.

zumba2.jpg

I was kind of having a not so good day, so what did I do to make it better? I went to a room full of mirrors to take pictures of crazy dance aerobics.

zumba5.jpg

The picture I really wanted was somewhere along the lines of perfect separation and composition. The ladies were moving around like crazy so I couldn’t really get too horribly close or else I’d get kicked or smacked.  I didnt really get my picture. Zumba’s a lot harder to take pictures of than I thought it’d be. First and foremost, taking pictures in a room full of mirrors is absolute hell.

But, It did feel good to take a break from the stress of pre-dead week, and just shoot some people who really didn’t care what I was doing.

Brit and El’s most excellent adventure.

-Elliott- “We need to get you a good picture, so you can put it on your blog and talk about how much fun you had; driving through creeks and watching my engine steam, and driving up mountains!”

-Me-”Don’t Worry Elliott, even if I dont get a good picture, I will still write lots of flowery words about how cool you are.”

Even though we didn’t get my amazing photo, I like to think of life as often as possible by looking at the positives instea of negatives. We did mange to find some really cute puppies eating horse poop. I made a long list of reasons why I need a Jeep instead of a sports car while Elliott drove his Jeep over every rock and creek possible. And we now know every nook and cranny around that area, after exploring for almost 4 hours. Let me tell you, theres a portfolio to be made in that one little area alone. And I would much rather be out picture hunting than sitting on my hiney watching television re-runs.

And at the end of the day, at least my dinner was better than theirs.

Green, my eccentric grandpa, proudly sits next to the

tombstone he and a large group of family will place on

the grave of his grand-father-in-law tomorrow.

Even though I live in Lexington, it’s a rarity to see my immediate family, let alone my extended family. And let me tell you, they are their own version of special… Sometimes I think we forget just how unique and interesting our family would appear to others, because that is the norm for us. So, meet the McIntosh family.

This is my beautiful grandma, Loretta.

She had five kids, and still takes care of the youngest, Steve,

who suffers from kidney failure and an occasional cancer, and

my crazy grandpa who’s deaf in one ear and blind in one eye.

This is Steve, my 42 -year- old uncle, and the youngest of five.

He’s had 3 kidney transplants, cancer, and survived a car accident that killed

all 4 of the other passengers.

This is the sister, Kristi; almost sixteen and full of attitude

and detester of family gatherings.

You know you’re a special kind of crazy when your mother yells at your father to not pose moments or look at the camera, and your relatives understand what good light is and why you cant help but take pictures of them when they’re in it.
