Monday’s Moment.

Leon, a bus driver for Lexington Public Transportation, chats with
his friend Charlotte while he waits for people to board.
With intentions of shooting Bass fishers, Elliott and I ended up at Grand Central Station for Lexington Buses. Fishing was canceled and I was really pissed off after a public below- the- belt- beating I took in my art photography class. After that, all I wanted to do was take pictures with my digital camera, that my professor deemed “a modern day crutch.”
I feel like I really proved a point to myself last night. A lot of people dont understand how photographs can be biased, and until I illustrated it to myself, I really didn’t either. This was one of the first photos I took last night, and after that, I was seeing triangles everywhere. I got home with photos full of triangles running out of my ears. If you go into a situation seeing something, then thats what youre going to come away with. Sometimes I forget how important having an open mind is.
Ping Pong

Lately Jim and Elliott have taken to battling at ping pong in any spare moment between taking pictures and not working/ skipping class. Im not sure what the current record is, but I think Elliott’s dominating Jim by a few games. But seeing as how Jim was in much better light, with a much better background, he got the glory shots.

Polo; more than an expensive shirt.
Today I dragged my butt out of bed and high-tailed it to Louisville. Mission : polo. I didn’t even know polo was in the United States, let alone that UK had a polo team. The only polo I had ever seen was a bunch of hot british guys in movies. The UK polo team has about 7 members, and they run themselves ragged. I thought rugby was rough. Try putting that on horseback.
When I shoot things now days, I start by just spending a few moments taking it all in; having a few mental conversations with myself; “what do you see Britney?? What do you see??!” etc. Since this was a little bit of an off beat sport, I didn’t want a typical sports photo. The world is sick of those anyways… I’m not so sure if I suceeded, but I had a good day none-the-less. I love the feeling of infinite power when its just you, the car, and an endless expanse of open road and sky. I saw an Alaskan liscense plate and every bone in my body wanted to follow that car home (assuming they were headed back to alaska…)
Sky Boys
Yesterday, I thought my head was going to explode from visual overload. Every aspect of the Springfield airstrip, where I was photographing the Jumpers of “Skydive Kentucky,” was absolutly perfect; from the amazing light flooding into the hanger, to the euphoria of doing flips in a plane no bigger than a Hummer. And as if that wasn’t enough, I got this incredible sunset too?!
But the most important aspect of yesterday was that it was FUN. I am the worst at getting so driven sometimes I forget to have fun along the way. When your hobby and your work coincide, thats an amzing thing; but there is a very fine line between the two, and its easy to just get caught up in the work aspect of it.
And you know what else; I take MUCH better pictures when I’m having fun.
Here one of the Skydivers is spotting for where he’s going to jump. I wanted to jump out of that plane so bad.
Here, the pilot Tony, is reflected in the window of the cockpit.
