capture a moment

Band of Bikers

Posted in Uncategorized by Britney on July 28, 2008

I have been lucky enough to spend my last few weeks here in memphis working with a really cool group of bikers. Sorry for the lack of updates these days, but here are a few photographs from my multimedia project I am working on. Ill post the finished thing after I finish it tomorrow.

They liked what they saw.

Does this crop annoy you?

This has some nice “doing” pictures, but where are the interactions. You’ve pretty much showed us what it’s like for when they’re together working on bikes and riding them. But what about the photos when they’re not. Like when the girl passed by on the bike, what does that picture look like tight, right there in their faces? The moment where the dude has the bag of ice on his head, he’s laughing. So what’s going on?

Good group of pics thus far, just work on interaction. And no, I like that crop as long as it’s just grass in the foreground.

I agree with Brad. While they are all great pictures, I’m missing something. I want to see the emotion when they interact with each other. Facial expressions and high fives. You’ve captured their life, now work on getting the interaction.

They look like a fun group of people, too. And I don’t mind the crop, either, but I’m curious what the original looked like.

In response to brad: yes its jst grass in the foreground, there was some cars in the back ground that bothered me.

to allie: they are very fun!

to both of you: i definitely agree. I need a strong moment picture, but this really isnyt going to make a strong photo story, youll understand more when you see the multimedia. But there is not really a huge conflict to make it a compelling story on its own, perhaps a photo essay on bike lifestyle, but i definitly agree, i need some moments, ive been struggling with that lately for some reason when it used to be my strong point.

Yeah, but there’s got to be a rider that doesn’t have a car, most likely because they refuse to use one. Follow that guy and do a story on his conflict with trying to live motorless. You could tell the whole bike lifestyle story, but have this on guy illustrate your main point of conflict. Riding in the rain sucks and I’m sure one of those guys does it every time it pours. Do you live in a bike-friendly city? If not, then there re probably road-sharing issues. And how do they get groceries/ move big stuff? I saw a youtube video of some people in NYC that moved their entire apartment by bike. Long story short, there’s plenty of conflict.

Also, cars in the background would provide a nice contrast. Better than grass at least. But only if they’re whole cars, not just wheels or whatever.
